Are your safety systems sufficiently protected against cyber security attacks? – Safety & Security in automation technology – This is the topic our safety expert Bernd Bartmann talks about during his presentation at the Safety & Security 2021 forum. Please note that the presentation is in German.
The need to take security aspects into account in the development of functional safety devices is now well known. Standardization has also already taken this into account. In practice and implementation, however, many questions arise. Which security gaps have to be considered in individual cases, which measures have to be implemented under which circumstances for protection?
In the lecture, various aspects of functional safety and cyber security will be contrasted using the example of applications in #automation technology (safe motion).
In order to give a comprehensive overview of #Safety and #Security, both terms will be defined and their differences or overlaps will be explained. It will then be discussed whether devices must be accessible via the Internet and how suppliers of networked devices can and must support their customers in setting up secure structures.
With the increasing requirements to be able to configure devices and monitor processes remotely, for example, the topic of cyber security in relation to functional safety is not only becoming more relevant, but also a prerequisite. This raises the question of how to ensure the protection of system configuration and data transmission. A special aspect is the necessity and handling of firmware updates. Possible approaches such as cryptography and public key infrastructure will be explained and discussed.
